Within the past couple of years I have really come to value students who want to better their work. This is part of the reason for going to projects as summative assessments aligned with content and student technology standards, as when they make improvements they are learning more. With a multiple choice test they may just be memorizing the answers. With projects, assessment and instruction are integrated processes and require that instruction prepares the learner to use what they have just learned. Below is a sample for my online physical science A class that I developed and implemented. In the development of this course I collaborated with teachers and administrators to select and evaluate digital tools and resources that enhance teaching and learning and are compatible with the school technology infrastructure. Throughout the virtual learning and teaching class I worked on planning for instruction that is based on learner needs and curriculum goals. I was able to work with teachers from other schools who were also taking the class, while I also worked with my administrator to make sure I could teach the class in the spring of 2017. Below is one example of a student who really wanted to do well and just did not understand what to do the first time around. With this class the lesson had been planned, taught, and assess for optimal learning. I learned that students weren't fully reading directions and when I sat down with this student and helped her through what it should look like a light bulb went off. She did a complete 180 and went from a score of 24/50 to a 41/50 based on the rubric.
