Throughout my masters program I have been required to be a part of a Twitter chat once a week. Because of this I wanted to try using it in the classes I teach as well. This required a lot of troubleshooting basic software, hardware, and connectivity problems to get all students connected. Once all students were connected I showed them how to follow hashtag feeds using Tweetdeck. This is something I use as well and it shows the value technology as a tool for lifelong learning. Using Twitter in a science class was a great experience for both myself and my students. The only real limitation of this technology was the lack of data in our community at the time. This limited students to only accessing Twitter during class time for the majority of students. However, we were able to effectively use computers to access Twitter and I was able to evaluate the potential of using Twitter. I saw very promising results with student scores on tests increasing from the previous year, without Twitter. The results are in my paper below.
